One of the greatest gifts I feel a parent can give a child is the joy and love of reading. There are so many magical worlds and adventures opened up to them when they learn to; it is truly amazing to watch. The subject of today’s FamSite has been responsible for resurgence in children wanting to learn to read. It has even happened in my own household.
The site is called Harry Potter Net, and is the online resource for what has become the hottest selling children’s books in recent memories. For the uninformed, Harry Potter is a young wizard who is a wizard in training, one who is just learning to use his magical powers. At this site, you can find out about the current books (3 total), the upcoming release of the newest volume (in July 2000), upcoming film plans, rules for a good game of quidditch, and a who’s who of characters in the book. You can even get a free email account with Harry’s name in it. Truly a magical and mysterious site for all to behold.
The power of this series in getting children to read is truly remarkable. My son, who is learning disabled, has managed to read the first two volumes all by himself. Before he discovered Harry, his interest in reading was marginal at best. But that has all changed since he discovered this series of books. This is a great site to share with someone who you know may not be too interested in reading. Enjoy your stop here today.
